Todd and Heather on the trail to South Colony Lakes. September 2nd, 2005. We were only able to get up 1.3 miles of the trail in our rented Chevy Trailblazer. So we had 5 miles and 1600 feet of elevation gain remaining up to South Colony Lakes with ~45 lb. packs. Then, on summit day, we had ~2.8 miles (one way) and 3400 feet of elevation gain. Three days, ~16 miles, 6000 feet of elevation gain, all above 8000 feet. Would have been easier if we had a real 4x4. A Chevy Trailblazer just doesn't cut it.
