April 12 video "Chrysalis Formation"

This is a time-lapse video of two monarch caterpillars turning into chrysalides on our house number sign. We have about two dozen chrysalides around our yard. Our "butterfly weed" (Asclepias tuberosa) bushes are completely bare of leaves and small stems.

Taken at one frame every two seconds (0.5 fps). 30 fps displayed rate / 0.5 fps taken rate = 60x speedup.

Sunset

Tried to take some photos of the lunar eclipse on March 3rd, but it was cloudy to the East so I took this shot to the West instead. This photo has been artificially enhanced somewhat (via Canon Digital Photo Professional's RAW editor).

  • Aperture: f/8.0
  • Shutter speed: 4.0 sec
  • ISO: 100
  • Exposure Bias: -1.00 ev
  • Focal length: 10.0mm
  • Lens: Canon EF-S 10-22mm
  • Camera: Canon 30D

Moon

A shot to the East. That is the moon--it is overexposed so you cannot see a little chunk of the Earth's shadow on it. This photo has been artificially enhanced somewhat. (via Canon Digital Photo Professional's RAW editor).

  • Aperture: f/5.0
  • Shutter speed: 8.0 sec
  • ISO: 400
  • Exposure Bias: +0.67 ev
  • Focal length: 40.0mm
  • Lens: Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5
  • Camera: Canon 30D
